What are MTM aligners?
MTM aligners are an alignment system that exists to help ensure that your teeth are well aligned and that your bite is functional. Without the help of this kind of system, it is possible that your teeth could continue their misalignment, which could result in more serious issues down the road. A few decades ago, bracers were often used for this kind of corrective work.
Today, you can enjoy the health benefits as well as a straighter smile without the need for metal brackets that have to be tightened and obsessively cleaned. MTM aligners are plastic trays that are clear. They are, in fact, essentially undetectable by those around you. You can straighten your teeth without anyone knowing at all.
How do MTM aligners work?
MTM aligners work by being custom created to fit your exact teeth and your exact needs as a patient. We will take a mold of your teeth and use that to custom create a series of plastic trays for you to use. Each tray moves your teeth incrementally and is working for a certain amount of time. The exact amount of time, as well as the exact number of trays, depends upon your particular needs, but generally, treatment extends anywhere from three to six months.
In that time, you will continue wearing your plastic trays and graduate from one tray to the next. By the end of treatment, you will have accomplished the goals that we’ve set for your smile, and your teeth will be aligned and functional.
Do MTM aligners hurt?
When people think of straightening teeth, they often think of heavy metal bracers and brackets that are attached to teeth and tightened every few weeks. Bracers can be uncomfortable for many individuals, and that makes MTM aligners a great alternative. Because they move your teeth so slowly and carefully, most people experience minimal discomfort while using MTM aligners. In fact, many people can put them in and forget they are wearing them – that’s how well they fit your teeth.
